Crochet goodies - Terra Quente (Warm Land)

Hello dear friends! Well, here I am at the beach again, for one more weekend of basking under the sun - pretty much like my iguana does every day in the balcony... Oh, dear Iro, I have in fact 2 cats (used to be 3), 1 iguana, 2 green turtles and a 200 L aquarium with tropical fish - no dogs, though (truth be told, I'm a cat's person).

Anyway, today I would love to share with you a new blog written by my geologist friend Ana. She crochets and knits beautiful products for us and our homes, using only Portuguese yarn, 100% cotton. So, if you're into beautiful products, handmade with love, chech out her blog (Terra Quente) and facebook page (she writes mostly in portuguese, but you can always use google translator, right?). She's a newcomer to the blogosphere, but I'm telling you, this gal will go places!

In this sunny, hot thursday (at least here at 37º02' N - I've heard people complaing about the bad weather in Lisbon, at 38º44' N) I found myself at home with lots of things to do and many ideas in my head.

I'm planning a big shopping trip to Ikea in Sevilla to buy new furniture for the kids' room and their office (the oldest is starting school in September). I sold their bunk bed and all the bookcases and now they have literally no furniture in the bedroom, except for the built-in wardrobe. We are going to close their balcony to turn it into a toy-free office. I'm so excited about this! The walls are going to be painted and I also want to paint the wardrobe doors (I've already showed you my ideas for the bedroom here).

Things to do today include:

- go to the bank and run some errands in the city

- tennis lesson (I've injured my ankle last week, so today I'll practice only serves and smashes)

- work on a scientific article (after dinner)

- find two beautiful pictures for the Tolsby frame above (from Ikea, of course)

- plan and prioritize home renovations (1st - kids room; 2nd - living room; I'll think about the rest only when these two are done)

We're not at the beach today, and I must admit I'm getting tired of it a bit (we've been living there since late June)... I'm way too tanned by now...

Nesta quinta-feira quente e soalheira (pelo menos aqui a 37º02´N - tenho ouvido pessoas a queixarem-se do mau tempo em Lisboa, a 38º44' N) estou em casa com imensas coisas para fazer e imensas ideias na minha cabeça.

Ando a planear uma grande ida ao Ikea de Sevilha para comprar nova mobília para o quarto e escritório dos miúdos (o mais velho vai começar a escola em Setembro). Vendi o beliche e as estantes que eles tinham no quarto e agora não têm mobília nenhuma, excepto o armário embutido. Vamos fechar a varanda do quarto para fazer um escritório livre de brinquedos. Estou super entusiasmada com esta obra! As paredes vão ser pintadas e as portas do roupeiro também (já falei sobre as minhas ideias para o quarto dos miúdos aqui).

As coisas a fazer hoje incluem:

~ ir ao banco e fazer uma séries de coisas na cidade

~ aula de ténis (a semana passada lesionei-me no tornozelo, por isso hoje vai ser só treinar serviços e smash)

~ trabalhar num artigo científico (depois do jantar)

~ arranjar duas bonitas fotos para a moldura Tolsby que se vê na foto (do Ikea, claro)

~ planear e priorizar as renovações em casa (1º - quarto dos miúdos; 2º - sala; só vou pensar no resto da casa quando estas duas divisões estiverem prontas)

Hoje não estamos na praia e tenho que admitir que já estou a ficar farta (estamos lá desde fim de Junho)... Já estou demasiado bronzeada...

Making the cut

I've just ordered this book from Amazon! The reviews are great! Although I'm quite a sporty person, it's been hard to loose the 5 pounds I need... I hope Jillian's book will help me in this task!

Acabei de encomender este livro da Amazon! As críticas são óptimas! Eu até faço bastante desporto, mas está difícil perder os 2 kg que preciso... Espero que o livro da Jillian me ajude nesta tarefa!

August goals ~ Objectivos para Agosto

Hi friends! Is it the end of July already??? It has gone fast, I see...I'll be on vacations during the whole month of August - too much vacations for me... I'd much rather take one week here and other week there, but I'm subjected to kids' school breaks...

Anyway, contrary to previous years, I'll not be spending the whole days at the beach (at the beach house, not at the actual beach under the Sun). I'm planning on sleeping at the beach house, spend the morning at the beach, have lunch there, and then come home for the afternoon... and do stuff around the house!

Anyway, before my August goals, let's remember my July goals, shall we?

Olá amigos! Já estamos no fim de Julho?? Este mês passou a voar... Vou estar de férias durante Agosto - demasiadas férias para mim... Prefiro tirar uma semana aqui e outra ali, mas estou dependente das férias dos miúdos...
Ao contrário de outros anos, não vou passar os dias inteiros na praia (na casa da praia, não propriamente na praia ao Sol). Estou a pensar dormirmos na praia, passar lá a manhã, almoçar e vir para casa durante a tarde... e fazer coisas em casa!
Bem, mas antes dos objectivos para Agosto, vamos relembrar os de Julho, pode ser?

Let's share a bag and some illustrations ~ Vamos partilhar um saco e algumas ilustrações

I have this shopping bag for ages but I can't remember where it came from. I've kept it over the years because I think it is beautiful! I love the illustration - the style reminds me of one of my favourite illustrators, Lucy Truman.

Eu tenho este saco há séculos mas não me lembro de que loja veio. Guardei-o ao longo dos anos porque acho-o lindo! Adoro o desenho - o estilo faz-me lembrar uma das minhas ilustradoras preferidas, a Lucy Truman.

Lucy's illustrations are all about glamour and elegant living with a 1950-60's touch. I first noticed her work on the book The Busy Girl's Guide to Looking Great (I have the portuguese version). Here are some of my favourites of Lucy's work. But be sure to check her website - pure eye candy!

As ilustrações da Lucy mostram um estilo de vida glamoroso e elegante com um toque dos anos 50 e 60. Reparei no seu trabalho pela primeira vez no livro "Guia para mulheres ocupadas - estar fabulosa". Plans for the weekend ~ Planos para o fim de semana

Olá amigos!

As you probably know, I've been spending the last weeks at the beach house (only 10 minutes away from home). This is the view from the living room:

Como provavelmente sabem, tenho passado as últimas semanas na casa da praia (a apenas 10 minutos de casa). Esta é a vista da sala:

This weekend we will be staying home, though. I've been bulk cooking for the upcoming week and I'm rather tired due to playing tenis two days in a row. In addition, I've been having tough days at work, with a lot of field work in the Ria Formosa and then many hours of lab work, processing samples...

No entanto, este fim-de-semana vamos ficar em casa. Tenho andado a fazer comida para a semana que vem e estou bastante cansada por ter jogado ténis dois dias seguidos. E ainda por cima, tenho tido dias de muito trabalho, com trabalho de campo na Ria Formosa e depois muitas horas de trabalho de laboratório a processar amostras...

So I hope this will turn out to be a calm, relaxing weekend. I have many DIY projects planned, such as painting the furniture you see in the picture, but definitely not this weekend...

Assim, espero ter um fim-de-semana descansado e calmo. Tenho muitos projectos de renovações planeados, como pintar os móveis da foto, mas não será certamente nestes dois dias...

Besides resting, I'm planning a lot of interaction with my pets, including these two: my persian cat and my green iguana (yes, they get along just fine)!

Além de descansar, estou a planear muita interacção com os meus animais, incluindo estes dois: o meu gato persa e a minha iguana verde (sim, eles dão-se bem)!
