Again Ikea

Oh boy, I'm excited! I've been seeling some of my furniture (already sold everything in the kids' room), and today I sold my kitchen table and chairs. We're going to Ikea in Sevilla in 2 weeks, and this is what I'll get for the kitchen: a Melltorp table and Laver chairs. Can't wait! 

Estou toda entusiasmada! Tenho andado a vender mobília (já vendi tudo o que estava no quarto dos miúdos), e hoje vendi a mesa e cadeiras da cozinha. Vamos ao Ikea de Sevilha daqui a 2 semanas, e eis o que vou comprar para a cozinha: uma mesa Melltorp e cadeiras Laver. Mal posso esperar! 

Preparing a big trip to Ikea

Oh boy, I'm excited! I'm planning a big trip to Ikea to buy new furniture for my kids' room and some other things for home... Here's a sneek peak of some of the items on my shopping list:

Estou super entusiasmada! Ando a planear uma grande visita ao Ikea para comprar mobília para o quarto dos miúdos e mais algumas coisas para casa... Aqui está uma amostra de algumas das coisas que já estão na minha lista de compras:

There are a few other items on my list, such as Ikea PS candleholder or a Mysa Rönn quilt and some candles... 

Regarding the Skruvsta office chair, I don't know for sure if I'll get it or not... First of all, I really don't need it, second, it's too expensive, and third, my cats' claws will eventually ruin the fabric...

There's another item though that I would LOVE to get... the beautiful grey and white Alvine Rand rug... But again, it's too expensive, I don't need it now in the summer (and usually it's hot here in the Algarve till early November...) and again, cats' claws... Oh, well, I'll be pretty busy as it is redecorating around the house with all the new furniture I'm buying, so I guess I can forget the chair and the rug for now...

Tenho mais algumas coisas na lista de compras, como o porta-velas Ikea PS ou um edredon Mysa Rönn e algumas velas...

Relativamente à cadeira de escritório Skruvsta, não sei bem se a compro ou não... Primeiro, porque não preciso dela, segundo, porque é demasiado cara, e terceiro, porque as unhas dos meus gatos hão-de dar cabo do tecido... 

Há ainda outra coisa que eu adoraria comprar... o maravilhoso tapete cinzento e branco Alvine Rand... Mas, mais uma vez, é demasiado caro, não preciso dele agora no Verão (e aqui em baixo faz calor até ao início de Novembro) e, novamente, as unhas dos gatos... Seja como for, vou andar bastante ocupada a redecorar a casa com a mobília toda que vou comprar, por isso acho que posso esquecer a cadeira e o tapete por agora...

Weekend Diary

Olá a todos! Como tem sido o vosso fim-de-semana? O meu pode ser resumido numa palavra: praia.
Usando uma janela (suja) da nossa casa para vos mostrar a minha roupa ao longo do fim-de-semana:

Yesterday we had to cut our palm tree... It died because it was attacked by the red pal weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus), a species of beetle originated from tropical regions. It arrived in Portugal in 2007 and has been responsible for the death of several species of palm trees mostly in the Algarve... Here's the little bug - we caught it coming out of the tree after we cut it...

Ontem tivemos que cortar a nossa palmeira... Morreu porque foi atacada pelo escaravelho da palmeira (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus), uma espécie de escaravelho originária de zonas tropicais. Chegou a Portugal em 2007 e tem sido responsável pela morte de várias espécies de palmeiras sobretudo no Algarve... Aqui está o nosso bicho - apanhámo-lo a sair da palmeira depois de a termos cortado...

In the meantime, my kids won't get out of the water...

And now I can say for sure that my favourite jazz album is the soundtrack of "L'Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud", by Miles Davis. It's quite an unknown album (my cousin, a jazz musician, had never heard of this album before), recorded in Paris in 1957 and described by jazz critic Phil Johnson as "the loneliest trumpet sound you will ever hear, and the model for sad-core music ever since. Hear it and weep".

According to Wikipedia, "Davis only gave the musicians a few rudimentary harmonic sequences he had assembled in his hotel room, and, once the plot was explained, the band improvised without any precomposed theme, while edited loops of the musically relevant film sequences were projected in the background."

Crochet goodies - Terra Quente (Warm Land)

Hello dear friends! Well, here I am at the beach again, for one more weekend of basking under the sun - pretty much like my iguana does every day in the balcony... Oh, dear Iro, I have in fact 2 cats (used to be 3), 1 iguana, 2 green turtles and a 200 L aquarium with tropical fish - no dogs, though (truth be told, I'm a cat's person).

Anyway, today I would love to share with you a new blog written by my geologist friend Ana. She crochets and knits beautiful products for us and our homes, using only Portuguese yarn, 100% cotton. So, if you're into beautiful products, handmade with love, chech out her blog (Terra Quente) and facebook page (she writes mostly in portuguese, but you can always use google translator, right?). She's a newcomer to the blogosphere, but I'm telling you, this gal will go places!

Thursday's breakfast ~ Pequeno-almoço de quinta-feira

In this sunny, hot thursday (at least here at 37º02' N - I've heard people complaing about the bad weather in Lisbon, at 38º44' N) I found myself at home with lots of things to do and many ideas in my head.

I'm planning a big shopping trip to Ikea in Sevilla to buy new furniture for the kids' room and their office (the oldest is starting school in September). I sold their bunk bed and all the bookcases and now they have literally no furniture in the bedroom, except for the built-in wardrobe. We are going to close their balcony to turn it into a toy-free office. I'm so excited about this! The walls are going to be painted and I also want to paint the wardrobe doors (I've already showed you my ideas for the bedroom here).

Things to do today include:

- go to the bank and run some errands in the city

- tennis lesson (I've injured my ankle last week, so today I'll practice only serves and smashes)

- work on a scientific article (after dinner)

- find two beautiful pictures for the Tolsby frame above (from Ikea, of course)

- plan and prioritize home renovations (1st - kids room; 2nd - living room; I'll think about the rest only when these two are done)

We're not at the beach today, and I must admit I'm getting tired of it a bit (we've been living there since late June)... I'm way too tanned by now...

Nesta quinta-feira quente e soalheira (pelo menos aqui a 37º02´N - tenho ouvido pessoas a queixarem-se do mau tempo em Lisboa, a 38º44' N) estou em casa com imensas coisas para fazer e imensas ideias na minha cabeça.

Ando a planear uma grande ida ao Ikea de Sevilha para comprar nova mobília para o quarto e escritório dos miúdos (o mais velho vai começar a escola em Setembro). Vendi o beliche e as estantes que eles tinham no quarto e agora não têm mobília nenhuma, excepto o armário embutido. Vamos fechar a varanda do quarto para fazer um escritório livre de brinquedos. Estou super entusiasmada com esta obra! As paredes vão ser pintadas e as portas do roupeiro também (já falei sobre as minhas ideias para o quarto dos miúdos aqui).

As coisas a fazer hoje incluem:

~ ir ao banco e fazer uma séries de coisas na cidade

~ aula de ténis (a semana passada lesionei-me no tornozelo, por isso hoje vai ser só treinar serviços e smash)

~ trabalhar num artigo científico (depois do jantar)

~ arranjar duas bonitas fotos para a moldura Tolsby que se vê na foto (do Ikea, claro)

~ planear e priorizar as renovações em casa (1º - quarto dos miúdos; 2º - sala; só vou pensar no resto da casa quando estas duas divisões estiverem prontas)

Hoje não estamos na praia e tenho que admitir que já estou a ficar farta (estamos lá desde fim de Junho)... Já estou demasiado bronzeada...

Making the cut

I've just ordered this book from Amazon! The reviews are great! Although I'm quite a sporty person, it's been hard to loose the 5 pounds I need... I hope Jillian's book will help me in this task!

Acabei de encomender este livro da Amazon! As críticas são óptimas! Eu até faço bastante desporto, mas está difícil perder os 2 kg que preciso... Espero que o livro da Jillian me ajude nesta tarefa!
